Scouts’ Chillout Camp 2016
The Scouts have just embarked on a chilled out weekend of fun at 11 Acres Scout Campsite in Downe, not far from our group headquarters. Despite being so local, this site is a perfect example of what a Scout Campsite should be. There are no frills here, you make your own entertainment and have the peace and tranquility of the kent countryside, watching dear skirt around the edge of the camping field throughout the weekend. The core principal of Chillout Camp is that the Scouts plan the activities and menu that they have for the weekend and essentially do what they want to do and when they want to do it.
Friday’s arrival at dusk meant that the focus for that evening was to get tents and dining shelters up for the weekend, followed by the all important hot dogs before getting a good night’s rest.
Saturday’s weather was not ideal with intermittent showers, however the Scouts did not let that stop them from making their own camp gadgets under their dining shelters and playing quick cricket. Of course after dinner, we played a wide game in the vast wooded area that we had to ourselves followed by a nice hot cup of cocoa around the camp fire.
Sunday was a beautiful sunny day, with the sun popping out over the tree line at about 07:30 in the morning (pictured). The Scouts were keen to get as much packing done as possible so after a hearty bacon and egg sarny they got to work. They did such a good job that we had plenty of time for games before finishing the packing and heading home after a short but excellent camp.
