St Andrew’s ‘Going for Gold’ Community Fun Day

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, leaders and adult helpers from the group took part in the St Andrew’s Church community fun day. The day had a theme of ‘Going for Gold’, which was in celebration of this Olympic year. There were members of a huge array groups, associations and companies in attendance to celebrate this summer of sport and to come together as a community.

We showed the public a small snippet of what we do by making Smores with the children (and adults if the truth be known). This is a traditional treat usually enjoyed by Cubs around a camp fire that consists of two chocolate biscuits and melted marshmallow. We also taught people the higwayman’s hitch and challenged them to tie it against the clock. Many people managed to tie the knot very quickly. Although the weather was typical for this summer, it was a good day for those involved, who are all to receive the Scout Olympic Badge for their efforts!
